The presiding deity of the shrine, revered by the local kings in former times, Goddess Chamundeshwari, is said to be an incarnation of Goddess Parvati or Goddess Durga. More than halfway up the hill is a giant statue of Nandi, a bull, who is also the vehicle of Lord Shiva. Approximately 4.8 metres tall, this statue is adorned with jewels and bells.
